The deadline is approaching: The cash register security regulation came into force on January 1, 2020 - by September 30, 2020, all electronic cash register systems must now be equipped with a new TSE certified by the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). The cash register security regulation is intended to protect against the manipulation of electronic cash registers and thus against tax fraud. According to the statement of Dr. Rolf Bösinger, State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Finance, will not extend this period again* and retailers will have to pick up the pace. Threatening fines of up to 25,000 euros continue to confront retailers with fear and uncertainty. ROQQIO offers two types of TSE, one cloud-based and one in the form of a microSD card - each as a fiscal bundle with selected services.
As of the first reporting date in January, there was still no certified TSE on the market, whereupon the federal and state tax authorities reacted and stipulated a non-complaint regulation until September 30th. However, dealers must already be able to prove in an examination today that they are working on an upgrade. As a provider of POS software, ROQQIO sees itself as responsible for its customers and supports them in the legally compliant implementation: "ROQQIO has supplemented its POS software with the required digital interface. This interface is used for the uniform transmission of data if they are requested by the tax authorities to check for correctness and completeness. It also ensures compliance with the statutory retention period,” explains Christian Jürs, Managing Director of ROQQIO.
Once integrated into the cash register system, a security module logs cash register entries from the beginning of the process and thus protects them from unnoticed subsequent changes. A storage module takes care of storage. In this way, stored processes are made tamper-proof. ROQQIO provides two types of TSE: a hardware module in the form of a microSD card and a cloud-based solution. “Which solution a retailer should choose depends on several factors. The cloud-based TSE is ideal for retailers who operate numerous branches and want to manage their cash registers centrally and online. The entries in the cash register system are recorded regardless of location and signed electronically. Retailers who do not use Internet-enabled cash registers can rely on the TSE as a hardware module. Here, the document signature happens independently of an internet connection,” says Jürs. "The countdown is running. In order for the cash registers to be upgraded on time, retailers must now decide on a solution and update their software.”
